Stan, with Philips Research since 1979, is an expert in channel coding, mainly for applications to digital optical storage and transmission via terrestrial channels such as mobile communications or wireless local-area networks. His interests are in the fields of algebraic coding, iterative coding techniques, modulation and detection methods for storage and transmission systems, space-time coding and information theory. He has given many training courses on channel coding, and represents Philips on various international conferences and in the academic world.
