Gerard,
with Philips Research since 1979, is an expert in video processing. His
work on algorithms for motion estimation, scan rate conversion and image
enhancement has resulted in several commercially available ICs. He made
a major contribution to the Philips ‘Natural Motion’ TV concept, which received
the Innovation Award from the European Imaging and Sound Association, and
Digital Natural Motion, which received the Wall Street Journal Europe Business
Innovation Award. He has given many training courses and has presented several
tutorials on invitation, e.g. at the International Conference on Consumer
Electronics (ICCE), where he won several Outstanding Paper Awards. In 1998,
he received the Gilles Holst Award at Philips Research Eindhoven. He is
a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE). He is part-time professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
