Philips announces Electronic Engineering Times Annual Creativity in Electronics Nominee at Philips Research

Dr. Sai Shankar N and team nominated as Innovator of the Year

Briarcliff Manor, NY, March 9 -- Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands (NYSE: PHG), announces today that Dr. Sai Shankar N of Philips Research USA, Briarcliff Manor, NY, was nominated as the Innovator of the Year in the Electronic Engineering Times First Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. The award is for those who bring leadership, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to a technology, a product or a business. Dr Sai Shankar is one of the prime inventors of the new Multi Band OFDM Alliance (MBOA) Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol along with Mr. Javier del Prado Pavon of Philips Research USA and Dr. Joerg Habetha of Philips Research Germany.

The EE Times ACE Awards were created to recognize the people, companies and products that show leadership in the electronics industry and honors those who are leading the way and making positive contributions -- the real innovators of technology.

UWB is a wireless technology that will provide up to 480 Mb/s and a range of 10 meters. With such high speeds, the contents of a Compact Disk (CD) can be transferred in less than 20 seconds. This functionality comes with low power consumption and cost, thus enabling UWB to be embedded in many consumer devices, such as cameras, MP3 players, and CD players, and, PC peripheral devices using Wireless USB (WUSB), such as hard-disks and displays.
