Philips and Key Code Media announce distribution agreement for video watermarking products

Eindhoven, The Netherlands -- Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) and Key Code Media Inc. announced today that they have signed a distribution agreement that will strengthen the sales and service of Philips’ world leading video watermarking products in the Hollywood area. Key Code Media will become distributor and service provider for Philips’ video watermarking products, providing the Hollywood Community with the best technology, support, and access to Philips’ solution for forensic tracking purposes.

Using the Philips technology, replicators can create large volumes of uniquely watermarked and labelled copies of video content. The underlying watermark technology was deployed with great success in the last two years when it resulted in the discovery of the origin of illegally copied and distributed versions of major motion pictures prior to their official release.

Philips’ business unit Content Identification offers a comprehensive range of hardware and software solutions for embedding and detecting video watermarks. “Philips’ is committed to providing the Hollywood Community with the best technology, support, and access to our products. It is important for us to understand the needs of our clients and to provide local representation for our technologies and products”, said Erik de Ruijter, General Manager of Philips Content Idenfication. “This relationship allows Philips to leverage Key Code Media’s local resources. Key Code Media has trained technicians and demonstration equipment that allows clients to receive local hands on information”, said Ronald Maandonks, business owner watermarking at Philips Content Idenfication.

“Hollywood is faced with combating unauthorized copying and distribution of content. Philips has a content protection and identification solution for MPEG, videotape and DVD copies that uniquely identifies the source of the unauthorized distribution. Key Code Media aligns itself with market leaders and helps them solve real problems with economical solutions. Philips fits that profile of a partnership. Philips has made a considerable research commitment to deliver commercially viable products today, along with an impressive roadmap for the future”, said Mike Cavanagh, President of Key Code Media.
