Philips introduces people-driven, market-ready innovations for enriched content experience

Berlin, Germany - At this year's IFA, Philips will be demonstrating innovative market-ready concepts and prototypes in the Future Zone. In this special area within the Philips booth it will be demonstrated how people can derive even greater enjoyment from their favorite music, photos, movies and other content in very flexible, personalized and totally new ways across devices. The Future Zone illustrates how Philips aims to speed up innovation, by turning research results into first-of-a-kind pilot-products and concepts designed around the user’s needs and preferences. This has already led to a number of new products. The Philips concepts and prototypes in the Future Zone include Lifestyle Home, amBX, 3D Solutions, Lumalive Fabrics, Video Fingerprinting and the Personal Nutrition Coach.

Lifestyle Home
Lifestyle Home consists of three prototypes presenting a vision for the future of connected living that embraces a diversity of tastes, habits and needs. The concepts concentrate on three specific user groups and exemplifies how different electronic devices can be adapted to allow people to select, tailor and enjoy their digital media and connected experiences in the way they desire, and fitting with their own situation. The central feature of the Lifestyle Home menu is that it is designed for extensive customization. The standard menu categories can be arranged, removed and/or renamed to suit user preferences. Users can also add their own categories and fill them with content of their choice, such as online services they find interesting. The menu also allows easy management of peripheral lifestyle devices such as ‘AmbiLamp’, photo frames and ‘media tablets’.

3D 4YOU
To provide people with enriched experiences, Philips is introducing amBX and a new 20-inch (51 cm) 3D 4YOU frame-mount display. AmBX enables multiple devices in a room to work in harmony to deliver new ways of enjoying entertainment: ambient lighting, sound, vibration, air motion and other effects. It takes what are pretty much ‘virtual’ activities – such as games, DVDs, music - and turns them into far more tangible, immersive experiences.
The new 20-inch 3D display is designed for integration into commercial applications, which will bring the user an exciting personal 3D experience. Its out-of-screen performance in combination with touch screen capabilities makes this 20 inch Philips 3D 4YOU ideal for use in narrow casting or interactive applications such as point-of-sale, point-of-interest and casino gaming.

Video Fingerprinting
Following the success of Philips Audio Fingerprinting, the company’s Content Identification group will demonstrate Video Fingerprinting. This technology enables content owners, and content service providers, such as operators and ISPs to automatically identify video segments and hence ownership of material by comparing unique 'fingerprints' extracted from the video segments with ‘fingerprints’ in a specially compiled database. Compared to manual monitoring methods, Video Fingerprinting allows better statistical sampling, faster response times and lower error probability. The system is capable of monitoring hundreds of video channels in parallel using a single server system.
