Ambient Intelligence; partnerships

Cross Atlantic cooperation: Member of Oxygen

Philips is actively involved in many joint activities. For example, Philips Research is one of six companies collaborating with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's computer science and artificial intelligence laboratories, as part of MIT's Oxygen Alliance. This aims to develop an infrastructure that brings an abundance of computation and communications functions to users through natural spoken and visual interfaces, making it easy for people to work together, access knowledge and automate repetitive tasks.

At European level

Philips is active in several European Ambient Intelligence initiatives. As a member of ISTAG (Information Society and Technologies Advisory Group) it is helping advise the European Commission on the role of Ambient Intelligence within Europe's 6th Framework Programme (FP6). Philips is also leading or involved in several European projects, for example:
+ Ambience
+ Ozone
+ Amigo
+ IceCream

Partnering R&D with academic and industrial organizations

Research and development in this field often brings together academic and industrial partners, as in the recently formed Ambient Intelligence Research and Development consortium (AIR&D). In this consortium the research organization of Philips works together with INRIA (the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and Thomson Multimedia. By joining forces with other motivated players in the consumer electronics and computer science in this way, Philips is contributing towards a common platform for Ambient Intelligence, putting together all necessary capabilities and adding important momentum to these developments.
